Main Task Brief

For Media, we have to do coursework. We were given the choice of 4 briefs: Print, Video, Audio and Website. I have chosen to do Print as the school has the resources that i would need to use in my coursework.

Main Task Brief: The front page, contents and double page spread of a new music magazine (if done as a group task, each member of the group to produce an individual edition of the magazine, following the same house style)

I have interpreted this brief as a rock magazine aimed at teenagers that are into rock as the people that will be featured in the magazine are into rock and can relate to rock.

Teenagers interests include: Fashion, Music, Bands, Gigs, Instruments.

Interesting events/issues that have happened or are going to happen: Reading Festival 2009, Reading Festival 2010, Rock Fashion Catwalk/Week, Gigs, Albums Of The Year.

Photographs that would have an impact and relate to the above events/issues: Images of teenagers in rock clothing, at gigs, at Reading Festival, images of albums and bands.

My lead would be a medium shot of a "Rocker" either holding their Guitar looking aggressive on the front cover or just standing there with a serious look on their face with a big standing out headline and medium sized captions to grab the readers attention. The colour theme will make Teenagers that are into rock and possibly Adults as well want to pick up the magazine and read it. Small images and writing will make potential readers look closer and hopefully become interested in it.

The style of my magazine will be Modern.

I have decided to publish it at the end of April, imagining that if it was published for real, it would come out once a month at the beginning of the month.

8) Evaluation of Contents Page.
9) Ideas for Double Page Spread.
10) Research and Analyse Double Page Spread of Rock Magazines. (Good and Bad points)
11) Design Ideas and Produce Final Double Page Spread.
12) Evaluation of Double Page Spread.
13) Evaluation of the whole magazine.


All of the Research and Analysing will help me to get an idea of the designs and layouts of how i would like my front cove, contents page and double spread page to look. For example: the positioning and camera angles of the photographs, font, size and colour of text, colour theme etc.

All images and text used must be original, produced by the candidate(s), minimum of four images per candidate.
